Adedamola Omotosho (CPE ’09) was awarded a Virginia Space Grant Consortium Scholarship for his undergraduate research proposal, "MEMS Microengineering Research: Microchips for Cancer Diagnosis."
"There are so many research opportunities ...I'd recommend that students let the faculty know if they are interested in helping."
-Stephen Nash, who served as team leader for the FNET team.
DSP Experience
Gary Wheelock, (EE '08) proposed and completed an independent research project using a DSP board to develop a BPSK transmitter and receiver. The equipment and a $2000 stipend were funded by BAE Systems to encourage undergraduate students to gain hands-on DSP experience. Students interested in the BAE Systems project should contact Dr. Pendleton, or Dr. Beex.
ECE encourages undergraduates to gain hands-on experience in the our cutting-edge laboratories.
Depending upon interests and abilities, undergraduates can often contribute in many ways, including design, measuring, construction, animation, and programming.
How to find research opportunities
- Sometimes opportunities are advertised in the relevant classes or posted on the student listserve.
- Most opportunities arise when an interested student approaches a professor with strong interest and proven ability.
- Students also can propose an indepent research project, which they develop in consultation with their advisor.
